Getting Crucial Dental Coverage With Medicare in Carson City

Your oral health can affect your entire body, especially as you age. Medicare dental insurance for seniors can help you get the coverage you need for everything from routine checkups to oral surgery.

You can get dental insurance on Medicare through Part C plans, which are administered by private insurance companies and regulated by Medicare. Sound confusing? Don’t worry, we’ll help you out.

What Dental and Vision Benefits Does Medicare Cover?

Original Medicare only covers dental and vision services that are necessary to treat other medical conditions. However, you can get Medicare dental coverage through a Part C (Medicare Advantage) plan.

Part C plans are offered by private insurance companies, and they often come with add-ons like dental and vision coverage. Coverage for these dental and vision plans vary by provider, so you’ll want to review several options to see what makes sense for your oral healthcare needs.

Most Medicare plans with dental coverage will cover routine exams and tooth cleanings as well as more invasive procedures like extractions, root canals, fillings, and crowns. Plans with vision benefits often cover eye exams, glasses, contacts, and vision surgery procedures like LASIK.

No two Medicare Advantage plans are exactly alike, so there are choices at a variety of price points and coverage levels. Some plans only offer bare-bones coverage, while others provide coverage for nearly all medically necessary dental procedures.

Compare Dental Options in Carson City, Nevada

When it comes to Medicare and dental insurance in Nevada, you have plenty of options to choose from. At Senior Insurance Agency, our team will help you review all possible plans so you can make a truly informed decision.

When selecting Medicare dental insurance, the first thing to consider is your coverage level. If you’re in good oral health, you may only need regular cleanings, but if you frequently require more invasive dental treatments, you might opt for a plan with a higher coverage level.

Additionally, you’ll want to select a plan that your preferred dental providers accept.

On top of that, you’ll want to consider how your dental coverage fits into your budget. Look at financial factors like monthly premiums and deductibles to see how they align with your budget.

Aliana has been serving me and my husband for several years now. We are always so thankful for her knowledge, reliability, support, kindness and sense of humor. She has gone beyond the call of duty for us on more than one occasion. We have her review our plan every year. If she doesn’t have an answer for our questions (which is rare!), she gets right back to us after she finds out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) offers very limited dental coverage. It primarily covers dental services only when they are directly related to a medical condition or procedure.

For instance, if you require a dental exam before undergoing a heart valve replacement surgery or need teeth removed as part of treatment for a jaw-related injury, Medicare may cover the costs.

However, routine dental services such as cleanings, fillings, dentures, and most tooth extractions are not included.

Under Original Medicare, routine dental and vision services are not covered. This means regular checkups, cleanings, glasses, and contact lenses are generally not included.

However, many Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans bundle additional benefits, including dental and vision coverage. These plans are offered by private insurance companies and can provide a more comprehensive range of services for beneficiaries looking for both dental and vision care.

Medicare Advantage plans vary widely, so compare options carefully to find a plan that fits your specific needs. Some plans may cover a broad spectrum of dental and vision services, while others may only provide basic care.

Dental coverage through Medicare, particularly Medicare Advantage plans, differs from traditional dental insurance in a few key ways.

Traditional dental insurance often offers coverage for preventive services like cleanings, X-rays, and exams, along with partial coverage for more advanced treatments like fillings and crowns. In contrast, Original Medicare provides no routine dental coverage, and even Medicare Advantage plans may offer varying levels of dental benefits that might not match traditional insurance plans.

Traditional dental insurance plans typically follow a co-pay model with set percentages covered for different types of services (preventive, basic, major), whereas Medicare Advantage dental coverage may come with specific annual limits and a narrower network of providers. It’s important to closely compare the terms and limits of Medicare dental coverage with those of traditional dental insurance to determine which option best fits your dental care needs.

Medicare does not cover dental implants under Original Medicare. Implants are generally considered a cosmetic or elective procedure and therefore not eligible for coverage.

However, if the dental implant is part of a larger medically necessary procedure such as reconstructive surgery following an accident or injury Medicare may cover certain related costs. The actual dental implant costs would still likely be out-of-pocket expenses.

That said, some Medicare Advantage plans may include dental implant coverage.
