Schedule MeetingWhat Are Medigap Plans?
Medigap plans are a form of supplemental health insurance that is secondary to Original Medicare.
Original Medicare, on most services, will have costs for care including copays, coinsurance and deductibles. Medigap Plans are secondary to Medicare coverage, to help cover some of those remainder costs for care.
Because original Medicare remains your primary health insurance coverage, choosing a Medigap policy allows you to keep the Medicare network of providers. This means these policies give you access to any Medicare provider anywhere in the country.

Frequently Asked Questions
The most popular Medicare supplement plan, often referred to as Medigap, is Plan G.
Plan G provides comprehensive coverage, including coverage for Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are exhausted, Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment, blood (first 3 pints), Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment, skilled nursing facility care coinsurance, and foreign travel emergency (up to plan limits).
Plan G does not cover the Medicare Part B deductible, which beneficiaries must pay out-of-pocket each year. Despite this, Plan G remains highly favored due to its extensive coverage, reasonable premiums, and predictable out-of-pocket costs.
The average monthly cost of a Medicare supplement plan, or Medigap plan, can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the type of plan, location, insurance company, and the beneficiary’s age.
As of recent estimates, a standard Medigap plan may range from around $100 to $300 per month. Plan costs may increase with age and can also be influenced by whether the plan is community-rated, issue-age-rated, or attained-age-rated.
Whether you need a Medicare supplement plan, also known as Medigap, depends on your individual healthcare needs and financial situation.
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) covers many healthcare services, but it leaves beneficiaries responsible for out-of-pocket costs such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. A Medicare supplement plan can help cover these costs, providing greater predictability in healthcare expenses and potentially saving money in the long run, especially if you have frequent doctor visits or need extensive medical care.
For some beneficiaries, particularly those with chronic conditions or who anticipate needing frequent medical services, a Medigap plan can offer peace of mind and financial protection against high healthcare costs.
While Medicare supplement plans, or Medigap plans, offer extensive coverage, no plan covers absolutely everything.
The most comprehensive Medigap plan available is Plan F, which covers all Medicare deductibles, coinsurances, and copayments, leaving beneficiaries with virtually no out-of-pocket costs for Medicare-covered services.
However, as of January 1, 2020, Medicare no longer allows newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries to enroll in Plan F or Plan C due to legislation aimed at reducing Medicare costs.
Plan G is currently the most comprehensive plan available to new Medicare enrollees, covering nearly all Medicare-approved costs except for the Part B deductible.
Medicare Supplement plans, generally, will not cover services that Medicare does not cover. With Medicare Supplement plans, you will not see included ancillary benefits such as dental, vision and hearing.
